E. Harold “Hal” Breitenberg, Jr. is a minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and Professor of religious studies at Randolph-Macon College. He grew up in Springfield, Virginia. Hal studied religion and music at The College of William and Mary and music composition at The Catholic University of America.

After college, he taught high school band in Gloucester, Virginia, and later worked for several years in the computer field for both the federal government and private industry. He received his MDiv and PhD from Union Presbyterian Seminary. Hal’s wife, Susan, is a member of Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church. They live in Glen Allen, and their two adult daughters live in Richmond.
