Mission Trips

Each summer the Outreach Division sponsors a mission trip to locations that have suffered from natural disasters or to areas where help with special projects can enhance the lives of others.  In the last two years Tuckahoe has sent teams to the gulf coast to help with rebuilding.  This summer (2009) Tuckahoe’s mission trip will be working in partnership with “Boaz and Ruth” in the Highland Park area of Richmond.

Bellemeade/Oakgrove

In 2005 Tuckahoe became involved with Bellemeade and Oakgrove Elementary Schools in Richmond city.  Members of our congregation volunteer their time as tutors and class room assistants and also help with special projects honoring the teachers and students during the school year.

CARITAS

For many years Tuckahoe has participated in the CARITAS program providing shelter for the homeless in the Richmond area. The week after Thanksgiving Tuckahoe becomes home to families with children who find themselves in need of shelter.

Habitat for Humanity

Every other year Tuckahoe joins with other Presbyterian churches in the area and helps build and fund a house through Habitat for Humanity.  The last house we help build was in 2008.

Other Outreach Activities of Tuckahoe

In addition to the above projects, members of Tuckahoe also prepare and take meals once a month to the Men’s shelter, Freedom House, and Hilliard House.  Individuals drive for Meals on Wheels, contribute to Lamb’s Basket (a food bank), provide back packs for children taken into foster care, and take part in mission projects sponsored by Presbyterian Women.
